This is a Right Hand Drive 1991 LH113 Toyota HIACE with the Toyota factory Cruising Cabin Pop-Top camper van kit. These camper vans are extremely rare as Toyota only manufactured a select few in house (It is believed there were only 250 units total) specifically for the Japanese market. At only 15,700 miles this example has the fewest miles of any Cruising Cabin that I could find in Japan or the rest of the world for that matter. Between the low production number and extremely low milage and good condition this van is a rare collectable.  

I personally imported this van in 2022 over a 5 month process, this is not a quick flip import like you might see elsewhere. It received a Level 4 auction grade which is the highest grade for a vintage vehicle. I purchased a private inspection and Japan carfax report before bidding to ensure it was properly represented. I've spent two years maintaining and modifying this incredible time capsule. This Van feels stable and strong at 70mph as well as nimble and capable off-road to get you to those remote camping areas. The new suspension feels great and is a huge improvement over stock. I could only find 1 registered owner in Japan for this Van and I am the only US owner since import so I am confident in assuming I am the second owner in the 33 years since this van was manufactured. Over the last 2 years this van has been stored in my temperature controlled garage. I am only selling as it is currently my 5th vehicle and I have yet to be able to get away even once for a camping trip since ownership. I have put 300 miles on the van since my ownership.

Things to know: - Minor dents in body consistent with age. - Minor rust bubbles in paint around bottom of windshield/ wiper arm area. - There is a small amount of surface rust on the undercarriage, I have not tried to remedy this to allow for complete transparency. This van is the most rust free import I have seen from Japan and is amazingly rust free for its age. A simple steel brush and rattle can rust reformer would be a perfect fix. - The speedometer stopped working for me last year, I have not bothered to fix it as between it reading in Kilometers and the larger tires it really wasn't very helpful. I have been using the GPS on the headunit for speed reading. - Minor carpet damage/stains consistent with age. - Diesel injection pump had a leak last winter; it hasn't recurred in warmer weather. A reseal kit is included. Repair costs ranging from $200 to $2,000 depending on which seal on the pump that might need replaced. - AC has a slow leak in the system. After a few months it needs to be recharged. The AC shop filled the system with UV Dye to help located the leak in the future.  

Other comparable Hiaces sales have recently sold for $30,000 and $32,000 respectively. These comps have 5 to 10 times more miles than this example.

1993 Mitsubishi Canter Turbo Diesel

Toyota ToyoAce (Dyna) Camper RV: I'm looking for a new owner for this unique machine imported from Japan! Right hand drive. Five speed manual. Rear wheel drive. Dually rear end. Recent tires have around 3000 miles on them. 1995 with approx 54,000 miles (86,000Km. speedo and odometer are in Km btw) on the trusty Toyota 3RZ-FE 2.7 4 cylinder - This engine was sold here in the US for a long time so parts for it are easy to get. 2 x 150 solar panels added to the roof that I used to keep my Ecoflow solar generator charged. (Ecoflow negotiable) Also added a composting toilet to the rear storage room (which can be removed or included). There is no black tank. There is a clean 5 gallon water tank for the sink and a 6 gallon grey water tank. Both are simple plastic jerry cans. Fridge works off battery or shore power. Shore power is 15 amp. There is a chassis battery and a separate house battery that Bothe get charged when the engine is running. Super simple. LED interior lighting. Currently in Rhode Island.

Camper Features:

Interior sleeps 3-5. 1 bed in rear, with a couch that converts to a full size bed. Lots of storage space. Wood burning stove! AC in the camper. Full set of skylights which provide ample light. Folding desk with monitor arm. Runs off of shore power, generator, or house batteries. It has a diesel heater. A fridge that seems to run off of battery, propane or shore power. It has a propane stove and two propane tanks. 19 gallons of fresh water (14 gallon water tank + 5 gallon tank of fresh drinking water). Separette Tiny Compost toilet. Bathroom converted to walk in closet. Exterior shower. The original interior shower can be plumbed but at the moment it has been removed, and replaced with a shower on exterior of vehicle. Easily remove and store chimney pipe when moving. 
And lots more….

Extremely rare. Only a handful of these were ever produced. This thing is a monster and I just don’t have the desire or skillset to continue updating and upgrading it. Runs great and ready to drive. Gets an average of 12mpg in diesel fuel. I've gotten 8mpg driving through Wyoming with a headwind, and 14 mpg driving through California. Top speed is about 60-62mph at the moment. Can do a higher top speed with larger diameter tires. But gearing is too low to sustain any higher speeds at the moment. This beast is tuned for sea level though and does not do well in higher elevations do to lack of a turbo. Comfortable below 5,000ft elevation. Struggles in power after that. If you are at lower elevations, then turbo may not be necessary. But if you are mechanically inclined and can install a turbo, this thing would be a road warrior. Most of these engine variants here in the US come from the factory with turbos installed, but since this was originally a commercial vehicle built for the Japanese market, many of them did not come with turbo. Luckily there are aftermarket turbo kits for this exact engine. Most people get them installed. I had not gone that route yet because I'm just not mechanically inclined enough to do so. It was on my list at some point, just never got there.

When I got the vehicle, it was quite rusty underneath, but all structural components were hidden high and deep so their integrity remained secure. So I had the undercarriage professionally sand blasted, then coated with polyurethane paint earlier this year to remove any rust and preserve the structural integrity of the vehicle. All structural components, including chassis, and camper sub-frame are solid. Most of the rust was on the lower hanging components of the vehicle, such as storage boxes and fiberglass skirts. But since the vehicle is so tall, all the important stuff remained hidden under the camper and in relatively good condition.  The lower frame of the fiberglass skirts has rusted out and barely remains however, due to its thin gauge steel. Since this area is not structural, I decided not to sand blast it, and instead have just been slowly removing it over time instead. 

The engine runs great. All fluids in the entire vehicle have been replaced. I've driven this thing from California to Colorado. Made several trips between Salt Lake City, Moab, and Denver. Even took it down to Austin Texas earlier this year with no issues. There is an oil leak at the back of the engine which I can't identify. I've taken it into a mechanic and they quoted me $5K to seal it. I never got around to it due to the heavy price tag. Thought I might attempt it myself but I havn't found the right tech to help me yet. Should be addressed at some point. Only leaks when being driven. But if the vehicle isnt being driven much, it doesn't seem to be an immediate issue. 

This vehicle was a mystery to me when I bought it and imported it from Japan. It is still a mystery to me today. There are so many things I just don't know how to work, given I have little experience with campers, and know nothing about electrical. Such as the generator, diesel heater and head unit all have no power. I am assuming there is a bad fuse somewhere, but I have not been able to find it. Therefore, I have just been running it off of shore power, and the solar-powered lithium batteries that I've installed. The AC in the camper unit works, and I run it during the summer, but the AC in the front cab doesn't work. I've had it diagnosed, and the verdict was a bad condenser. I have not been able to locate one yet, so the search is still out. 

This is an absolutely beautiful rig, and extremely unique, inside and out. It is now looking for a new home to continue its revival into the expedition vehicle it was born to be.

We are the second owners since import and she has been well-maintained. Used as a daily driver for a while. Clean title, most recently registered in NH, currently not registered. Love it and has served us well just have one too many projects.

Aftermarket stereo, rhino roof rack (can fit rooftop tent), roll-out canopy, aftermarket (oversized) wheels, and trailer hitch all installed in last 3 years.

Starts easy, runs great. Some minor rust on the undercarriage but has gotten regular undercoat for previous 3 years. Clean on the interior, with minor wear & tear to seats and plastic. Since we bought it, our focus has been on the mechanical upkeep and performance, not so much the cosmetic (didn’t get that far). We've invested a lot in keeping it in good shape - regular oil changes, fluid replacements and top-offs, and a good chunk of major fixes and/or improvements:
